Lovely little square letterpress business cards directly off the press. Local fashion designer Elisa approached us in the studio, looking for something a little bit special to make her cards stand out when she is showing her wares at events and fairs etc. The 100% cotton paper with its fluffy soft tactile qualities was perfect for this but, to give it a little individuality, we created a lovely mini 5.5 cm x 5.5 cm square card.
you can see the beautiful grain in the paper in this close-up shot. the impression was fairly deep here as we were using a 300gsm paper but when using a 600gsm card you can push much deeper into the paper if that is the desired effect you are after. For a deeper impression the paper needs to be really soft otherwise you can experience cracking around the impression area which looks bad. When choosing to have your own cards done, it is wise to have a look first at the different ways letterpress can be created, some studios like very deep impression and others prefer the kiss or a slight impression, but as letterpress is revived for those that want something a bit different from the run-of-the-mill cards out there, you are the one that should decide how you want your impression set. We like to give enough impression to be felt on the fingertips but not too much that will show through to the other side.
